Huchuy Qosqo is an archaeological site north of Cuzco, originally it was a religious, administrative and military center, with many old buildings in the surroundings. You can also see Inca buildings with stone and mud structures that features buildings such as fine grain storage called Collcas to store and preserve food, because it was an important agricultural center to produce corn. Huchuy Qosqo is located at an altitude of 3650 meters above sea level. above the city of Lamay and the Sacred Valley. The site received its name in the 20th century, previously it was known as Kakya Qawani. According to chroniclers like Pedro De León, the palaces were built by Viracocha, the eighth Inca. Among a large number of buildings, some stone, some adobe, is a Kallanka (great hall), 40m long. The water supply to the site is a wonderful irrigation canal built by the Incas lined with stones, the site is inaccessible on public roads.
Full Day Cusco – Huchuy Qosqo – Cusco
The day begins at 05:30 am with the pick up and transfer from the hotels in Cusco in our private mobility from where we will travel to the Patabamba community located at 3,700 meters above sea level for approximately one hour. Beautiful Andean town with incredible landscapes a land of great wool weavers, where they use ancient Inca techniques to create textiles. From this point our walk begins through which we pass through some small communities such as Siwas, Qenqo. Continuing we arrive at the town of Pumamarka where we will enjoy a lunch of dried fruits (pecans, chestnuts, sacha inchi, dry pineapple, dried mango). After lunch, we continue the trek to the Puma Puncu canyon (“the gate of the puma”). From here, we walk along an original Inca trail, which has been restored as part of the Qapacñan project. This trail takes us to the isolated and mysterious Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo (“Little Cusco”) which is above Lamay and the Sacred Valley. Once at the site, the payment to the land is made an offering with a lot of will thanking the Pacha Mama directed by our spiritual master, ending you will be able to appreciate all the incredible Inca buildings of the site, such as sacred temples, warehouses, Inca terraces for the agriculture and the Inca reservoir used to store water during the dry season.
After the visit to the archaeological site, we will begin our two hour walk downhill to the town of Lamay next to the Wilcamayu river in the Sacred Valley, where our private transportation will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
