Apu Salkantay - Machupicchu

The expedition will take you to two destinations that are geographically linked in the Cusco area, Salkantay and Machupicchu. Salkantay, which is the second study of the Andean worldview, where protection and assistance is requested for planting, harvesting, health and guidance. On our trip, we can enjoy a spectacular Geography, flora and fauna, typical of the rainforest, inter-Andean valleys and the rainforest. The temperature on this walk can vary from a minimum of -10ºC at night, and a maximum of 23ºC during the day according to the sections in which we are.
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Sorayapampa
Transportation from Cusco to the town of Mollepata 3000 m.a.s.l. We pass through the community of Cruz pata 3400 m.s.n.m., where we have the magnificent scenery of valleys, mountains and the most important snowy mountains in the Vilcabamba mountain range; as the Humantay 5217 m.s.n.m. and Salkantay (6264m). Our camp is in Soraypampa 3700 m.s.n.m. Transportation time 4 hours. Walking time 7 hours. Cold weather.
Day 2: Sorayapampa – Salkantay Pass – Challway
In the morning we have the highest part of this road called Salkantay Pass 4600 m.s.n.m, then descend in the middle of “Yunga” tropical forests where biodiversity is constantly changing to our camp called Challway 3000m.s.n.m. Walking time 9 hours.
Day 3: Challway – Winaypoco – La Playa
It is a spectacular day to descend through cloud forests, where vegetation develops capriciously. It is the place to recognize some species such as Orchids, Bromeliads, Bomareas and etc. We visited some families in Wiñaypoco 2650 m.s.n.m and La Playa 2100 m.s.n.m. place of our camp. Walking time 6 hours, warm during the day with mosquitoes and cold during the night.
Day 4: La Playa – Llactapata – Machu Picchu town
Early in the morning we take the Inca Trail network to the archaeological complex of Llactapata 2650 m.a.s.l. Place where vegetation develops capriciously in Llactapata. This is the place where we observe the mythical mountain of Machu Picchu. Then we descend to Hidroeléctrica 1950 m.s.n.m. where we take the train to enter the town of Machu Picchu 2050 m.a.s.l. We spend the night at the hostel. Walking time 6 hours, with a warm climate with many mosquitoes.
Day 5: Machu Picchu Pueblo – Citadel of Machu Picchu – Cusco
It is advisable to visit the lost city of the Incas “Machu Picchu” early in the morning. We take the tourist bus to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu 2400 m.a.s.l., guided tour by a professional with extensive knowledge in history and information of the recent explorations found. After the visit you have free time before returning to meet again in the town of Aguas Calientes, place to take the train back to Cusco. The climate in Machu Picchu is warm with mosquitoes.

What should I bring?
- Backpack
- Clothing for warm and cold weather like; waterproof jacket, fleece, pants and trekking shoes, polo shirts, rain poncho, hat and scarf.
- Sun block.
- Insect repellent.
- Alcohol disinfectant gel.
- Water bottle and sterilizing tablet.
- Camera (wrapped in plastic bag), flashlight and batteries.
- Small snack selected as a bar of chocolates and dried fruits.
- Original passport and have the number handy.
- Extra money in soles.
